Sustainability of Our Alfalfa Production

Agricole Forte participates in the Italian Forage Supply Chain project and has quantified its environmental footprint through an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) study verified by DNV according to international standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
The results confirm the ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impacts across the entire supply chain, from the field to distribution.

The Foundations of Sustainable Quality

For us, sustainability is not just added value; it is the very foundation on which we build our work every day. Our alfalfa, a symbol of pure nutrition, grows under the sign of ethical and environmental commitment with no compromises.

Through our innovative dehydration process—the Forte Method—we not only preserve the crop’s valuable nutrients, but also enhance its already strong sustainability. Our efficient and high-quality production system significantly reduces the environmental impact of agricultural practices. We also embrace the advantages of smart farming and digital technologies at every stage of our production process.

In addition, alfalfa, being a perennial crop, has a long lifecycle, which means we work the soil less frequently compared to other crops—thus minimizing environmental impact.

Dehydrated alfalfa from Agricole Forte, in all its formats, is not just a quality ingredient for livestock and performance animal diets; it is a living manifesto of our philosophy. Every bite of this sustainable forage transmits vitality and well-being, ensuring that consumers receive products derived from responsible and conscious agricultural practices.

The Po Delta: A Cradle of Biodiversity

Agricole Forte operates within the Po Delta Regional Park, recognized by UNESCO as a MAB Biosphere Reserve (Man and the Biosphere). This unique environment supports the development of sustainable practices and directly impacts the quality and sustainability of our alfalfa.

The distinct characteristics of this territory—low-lying plains, fertile alluvial soil, and ideal humid climate—allow alfalfa roots to grow deep, absorbing greater amounts of nutrients and water. This not only improves crop quality but also strengthens the plant’s resilience, reducing the need for external interventions.

Promoting sustainability in the Po Delta area is a commitment we share with the local community and with everyone who, like us, believes in a responsible agricultural future. Our collaboration with this territory is not only strategic—it is also a tribute to its extraordinary biodiversity and its power to inspire truly sustainable farming practices.

“There is no paradise on earth, but there are pieces of it.”

Jules Renard

What does sustainability mean to us?

From an agronomic perspective, alfalfa—as a legume—is considered a “soil-enhancing” crop because it contributes nitrogen to the soil, improving its fertility and making alfalfa a valuable resource for crop rotation and sustainable farming practices.

Our mission is clear: to embody and promote the concept of “Sustainable Quality” in every aspect of our production, bringing the nutritional benefits of pasture directly to the stable.

This commitment stems from a deep awareness of the impact that agricultural practices have on the environment—and, consequently, on the health of both humans and animals.

That’s why, in the production of alfalfa for animal feed, we strictly apply best practices to provide farmers and feed producers with a healthy, high-quality product—laying the foundation for a traceable and premium supply chain.

Alfalfa: A Naturally Green Crop

As confirmed by a study from the CRPA commissioned by the Emilia-Romagna Region, alfalfa is a truly green crop.

Alfalfa is recognized for its ability to produce a significant amount of plant-based protein per hectare, making it a valid alternative to soy—especially in ruminant feed.

This crop is inherently eco-friendly, with a lower carbon footprint than other crops—per hectare cultivated, per kilogram of dry matter produced, and per kilogram of digestible protein.

This makes it an advantageous choice both nutritionally and environmentally, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promoting more sustainable, environmentally respectful farming practices.

Sustainability Is Health

Our commitment to sustainability brings us to a key concept: the close connection between sustainability and health.

As highlighted by reputable sources, adopting sustainable agricultural practices brings direct health benefits, creating a virtuous cycle that begins in the soil and ends on our tables.

This is why we firmly believe that sustainable farming not only protects the environment but also actively promotes the well-being of both animals and people.

The health of our planet and its population are closely linked. Every decision made in agriculture has a direct impact on our quality of life.

Our product—dehydrated alfalfa—is an excellent example of how integrity in the production process, combined with a deep respect for nature, can yield not only high-quality feed but also one that is inherently healthier.

Agricole Forte does not simply maintain high standards of quality and sustainability; we stand out as a champion of farming that honors and preserves natural resources. In doing so, we actively shape a future in which “Sustainable Quality” is not just an idea, but a lived, everyday reality.

Every seed sown and every field cultivated underscores our dedication to agriculture that nourishes the body without depleting the soil—proving that a sustainable future is not just a concept, but a concrete reality built on conscious, responsible choices.
